Rafael leaves his hometown, a fishing town in Venezuela, for Norwalk, Connecticut.

On the Line
He starts as a line cook and works his way up to chef.

Fish Tales
For three years, Rafael owns Fish Tales on East Avenue, serving New England-style seafood.

2017
He decides it’s time for a change and turns Fish Tales into a Spanish fish market.

La Pescadería opens in the same corner spot, with a bright new look and Venezuelan arepas on the menu.

Noun, Spanish: a fish shop
That’s what we are. Seafood to take home from the counter, and the Venezuelan food Rafael grew up with to go alongside it: arepas, tacos, rice bowls, burritos and salads.
We’re one of the few places in New Canaan where you can get rice and beans, arepas and tacos for lunch.
